CYCLADIC ARTS RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Where: Alyki, Paros, Greece
When: Fall 2024

What: The pilot program for an artist-in-residency collaboration between Torrance Art Museum and Cycladic Arts. The museum’s curatorial staff will choose one artist to take part in the program. Flight and cost of the residency will be sponsored (expenses and materials are not covered). Cycladic Arts mission is to support the dialogue and exchange of experiences, knowledge and skills between people from diverse geographic and ethnic backgrounds, ages, and forms of art and culture. Cycladic Arts encourages international projects and collaborations in Greece and abroad.

BANNERS- student art project

Where: Torrance Cultural Arts Center Campus

What: Torrance Art Museum invites South Bay high school students to submit artwork for a chance to have it printed on vinyl and displayed as part of a light post vinyl banner installation on the museum campus. Artists must be currently enrolled or just graduated the 22'/23' academic year, live in Torrance or a neighboring city, and selected artists must be able to deliver ready to print hi-resolution digitized files of selected artwork.

WINDOW

Where: Discover Torrance at Del Amo Fashion Center
When: Ongoing

What: An ongoing public art project in collaboration between Torrance Art Museum and Discover Torrance. The project is a rotating solo presentation of artwork, curated by the museum staff and displayed in the storefront window of Discover Torrance, the official Visitors Bureau for the City of Torrance. Discover Torrance is located on the main level of the Del Amo Fashion Center, one of the largest shopping centers in the Western United States, affording a large segment of the community as well as many visitors to the city a chance to engage with artwork in a non-institutional setting.

The museum will consider any works that can be presented inside a display window (work(s)/installation must be no larger than 6 feet across, 3 feet deep, 8 feet high). Four artists are chosen per year.

ANNEX

Where: Unoccupied Commercial Spaces in Torrance, CA
When: Ongoing

What: Part of Torrance Arts Museum public arts initiative, ANNEX is an ongoing emerging artist/curator program, aimed at revitalizing unused urban spaces and creating opportunities for early career artists and curators to engage with a wider audience. The project dates are ongoing and variable and dependent on available spaces. Applicants must be based in LA county . TAM will assist with logistics, will promote the project, and provide practical advice and support.

No application fee/$500 stipend/budget

¿WILD?

Where: Madrona Marsh
When: April 18 - May 16 & October 17 - November 14

What: A public art residency project collaboration between Torrance Art Museum and Madrona Marsh Preserve and Nature Center. ¿WILD? fosters artistic development and environmental engagement through opportunities for research, creative growth and cross-discipline exchange with the environmental community.

The residency program invites contemporary artists with an environmental focus to interact with the Madrona Marsh Preserve, scientists, researchers, students, and the public for a month, during which they will research, develop, and build a site specific work of art, to be presented on the public grounds around the preserve for four months after their residency.

No application fee/$600 stipend/budget

Portfolio Review

What: TAM curatorial staff will review and respond to artist’s portfolios/art works.

This program continues the TAM’s efforts to rethink the role of gatekeeper, to realize innovative curatorial approaches, to diversify presented voices and to democratize the institutional relationship with artists and audiences.
