The Anthropocene Foundry Los Angeles 2025
A series of six video programs, each shown over the course of six weeks, with two parts featured each week. The theme of the exhibition, "Finiteness / Infinity," explores the impact of human activity on the environment through a blend of animation, video art, and sound art.
The program includes works from The Anthropocene Project, curated by Wilfried Agricola de Cologne for The New Museum of Networked Art, showcasing around 500 international artists. These artists create new realities using self-made footage and advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence. Their work reflects both the finite nature of life and the infinite potential of creation, offering visions of the future and the world as we experience it.
A key component of the exhibition is animate’C24, a retrospective of the Cologne Art & Animation Festival (2010-2025), which highlights the relationship between human creation and the environment. In addition, The 4 Ecologists, a special program curated by Agricola de Cologne, will feature animations by Silvia de Gennaro, Maria Korporal, Susanne Wiegner, and Brit Bunkley, shown during weeks 2 through 5.
In week 2, the exhibition will also address violence as a significant form of human impact, with a program titled Code of Violence, curated by Gioula Papadopoulou. This program includes video works by students from the School of Art/New Media LAB at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece).
The exhibition celebrates the 25th anniversary of the New Museum of Networked Art, founded in 2000, and marks the beginning of a new era with the establishment of The Agricola de Cologne Foundation for the Arts, which will operate the museum from 2025 onward. The Anthropocene Foundry began its global tour in 2024, with previous stops in Quito, Kolkata, and Addis Ababa, emphasizing the worldwide significance of the Anthropocene era.
